Come on Roger, be a man, and fess up. Your friend Andy did. It’s too bad you had to cheat. You could have been the greatest pitcher of all time. Dan Duquette now looks like a genius.

Boston Globe wrote a nice article about Matt Damon being a Red Sox fan. He is the narrator on the new 2007 World Series DVD. This quote stood out from the globe article:
“My brother told me my nephews think Mike Lowell is George Clooney,” Damon said.
See the rest of the piece here.

Nick Cafardo from the Boston Globe is reporting:
“Free-agent third baseman Mike Lowell has agreed in principle to the framework of a three-year deal to return to the Red Sox, major league baseball sources close to the negotiations have confirmed.”
Wooooo Hooooo!

There are reports out that Mike Lowell has been offered a 4 year deal with somebody. From what I read it doesn’t look like it’s the Yankees. It could possibly be the Dodgers or the Phillies. Apparently the Red Sox have offered Mike a 3 year deal.

I am reading reports today that the Yankees are courting Mike Lowell to come and play first base. They are also talking to A-Rod to return to play third. Talk about a worse case senerio.

As of 12 midnight, last night, Mike Lowell is free to talk to any team. The Sox have made him an offer. Now he can see what’s out there. It’s not over yet as Nick Cafardo says:
“The fact that Lowell wasn’t signed by midnight reduces the chances of his returning, but it’s not over yet.
It always has made sense to Lowell that he should stay in Boston, where he likes the players and management and where he’s adored by the fans. At some point, that might just override business.”
Let’s hope Nick is right.

Boston.com and the Boston Globe are reporting the the Red Sox have made an offer to Mike Lowell. It’s a three year deal. Read part of the Globe article below.
“Epstein believes daily conversations with Lowell’s agents, Sam and Seth Levinson, progressed. Major league sources said the Red Sox could give Lowell a three-year deal, but Lowell’s agents believe he can get four years in the $13 million-$14 million annual range on the open market. The Red Sox have wrestled with the length of the deal, and whether Lowell, who turns 34 in February, has peaked offensively. Lowell hit .324 with a career-high 120 RBIs in 2007.”

So what does this have to do with resigning Mike Lowell? Curt has announced on his blog that he is taking a one year deal with the Red Sox. Read what he has to say, and don’t forget to read the last line. Curt’s blog is 38pitches.com.

Mike Lowell made about 9 million this year. What will it take to keep him here? This year, Manny made about 17 million. Big Papi made about 13 million, so did Curt Schilling. I think Mike needs close to Papi or Schilling money, for maybe two, definately 3 years, to keep him here. Hinske, Clement, Schilling, and Kielty have filed for free agency. That’s 33.9 million a year the Sox are saving. Let’s give some of this to Mike ! If he files for free agency, the Yankees will probably offer more. ugh.
